Baby Art & Music 12m-18m (Accompanied)
Description
Baby Art & Music
Babies are gently invited to step into the world of exploratory first art. Using a wide variety of simple materials such as paper and card of different colours. At this age the world is one big experiment so we introduce new art materials or equipment each week, giving time and freedom for children to explore ‘what is it?’ to ‘what does it do?’ and ‘what can I do with it?’. At this age the art of learning is still in the doing and not in the end result. Each week will build on previous weeks so while an area may start with homemade playdough as the weeks progress, we can introduce psyllium husk slime or clay; early mark making that starts with crayons will progress onto chalk and charcoal; and the easel area introduces a variety of textured paintbrushes and paper throughout the term and that paint is often one of the first steps to discover primary colours and mixing. After washing hands and perhaps a story we move into a music circle with props and simple instruments to close the class.
Classroom Setup:
Our classroom is arranged to allow the children free exploration of the environment. Moving between floor-based art activities, low tables & the easel. You can support your baby by moving from the different stations of materials to explore together. The free flow classroom enables your child to practice their independence, social skills and further develop their gross motor skills while always having that reassuring line of sight (and assistance when needed) with their parent/carer. All our art materials are taste safe, but this class is not food based, so we will redirect oral exploration to discovering with our hands and eyes instead.
