Free the Child’s potential and you will transform him into the world ~ Maria Montessori

The Montessori approach allows children the freedom to learn through understanding, rather than being instructed on what to do. From this understanding a child can easily develop confidence and pleasure in expanding their knowledge.

Acquiring a greater perspective on how children absorb knowledge, the teachers are then able to provide the child with tools and opportunities tailored their experience in the world independently. A Montessori education is providing the structure of future learning recognizing a child’s capacity to engage with new material and information. In connection, there is a physically powerful element to many Montessori activities, encouraging aptitude, balance and appreciation of colours figures and dimensions.

The Montessori way of teaching is considered ‘different’, as statistics show Montessori to be a successful approach to educating children. The foundation of a deeper perspective is through a child’s uniqueness and independence. A close relationship is then naturally formed between child, the teacher and environment. This relationship continuously evolves and flourishes; it is based on close study of a child. The observations correlate to the use of specific materials in a Montessori environment particularly prepared for a child’s present desires. A Montessori trained teacher encourages a child as an individual and promotes a dependable approach to learning which enables a child to improve at their own pace rather than at a speed that is expected in a classroom.

Maria Montessori was a pioneer, a revolutionary figure in history and to this day the face of Montessori education.
Montessori, who was initially trained as a physician in Italy, was drawn to the study of children, specifically those who were labelled as being incapable of being educated. She came to the conclusion after working one on one with individual children that they naturally learn in, from and within their surroundings.

Montessori strongly focuses on the individual child, allowing them to develop at their own pace. This specific way of teaching presents a child with a broader curriculum which expands into life skills. All Montessori schools are evaluated to the same national standards as other schools. The Montessori curriculum is commonly counterpart and often surpasses the regular standards required across all faces of education.

The Montessori environment makes a profound impression on the individual child. In a Montessori environment a teacher must be guided by the individual’s stage of development. This is often achieved by offering activities that are conducive or are developmentally appropriate to the individual for the child must be able to replicate an exercise as often as is necessary to perfect and obtain the skill at hand. Freedom of a child’s choice lends itself to facilitating spontaneous activities whilst divulging into unexpected possibilities. As a result the child is at complete liberty in their surroundings, provided it does not hinder the social order and synchronization of the class.

Georgina Hood, Founder and Principle of Paint Pots Montessori Schools, a passionate leader and trailblazer in January 2010, opened Picasso House Montessori Prep School (ages of 5-11) under the umbrella of Paint Pots Montessori Schools. Picasso House Prep Montessori School is the first Montessori Prep school in London, Chelsea. After a thriving year, Picasso House continues to grow and evolve being celebrated by parents, teachers and Children.

Georgina Hood became aware of some children being sent to formal schools as young as four years old. It was with the timely presentation of the Cambridge Review that Georgina’s instinct was reiterated and confirmed which co-incided with her opening Picasso House, the first Montessori Prep School in South West London.

A Montessori Education supports the concept of making the most of your child’s individual potential. At Picasso House and Paint Pots Montessori Schools we encourage the individual child’s ability to embrace the learning day to day challenges with curiosity and eagerness. In a Montessori environment a child will naturally develop the capacity to direct their learning’s by devising their own work plan following their unique pattern and rhythm of work. The Montessori way of teaching fully meets the standards of the national curriculum, which goes beyond this in many lights.
